Osprey Games are publishing a 75th anniversary edition of Escape From Colditz in October next year. I am so excited!
Escape from Colditz delivers an aesthetic high the moment you see the box cover, but just wait until you get inside. The large mounted map board with muted colors and detailed imagery of the castle grounds immediately evokes the solemnity of prison life. A small box of components is disguised as a WWII era parcel from the Red Cross. Escape From Colditz is a 1-vs-many semi-cooperative game where one player is the Security Officer of the German forces, and the others are Escape Officers for various nationalities or prisoners of war (POWs). Escape Officers try to acquire the equipment they need for a successful escape (rope, wire cutters, etc.), while the Security Officer tries to hinder them by putting them in solitary.

One player takes the part of the German Guards, whilst the others play 'Escape Officers' who are responsible for organizing escape attempts by their team of prisoners. Generally, the winner will be the Escape Officer who achieves the most successful escapes; but it might be the German Forces, if they are able to limit the number of escapes. It's going to have all new artwork by Peter Dennis, with new extra bits and bobs included. The release is to coincide with the 75th anniversary of Pat Reid (one of the game's designers)'s escape from the prisoner-of-war camp itself during WWII.
